Mr. Arun Mehta

Mr Arun Mehta is one of the 2 original shareholders and directors of our Company. He was appointed as our Managing Director in 1973 and elevated to the position of Vice Chairman and Managing Director in 1999. Subsequently, he was further elevated to the position of Chairman & Managing Director in December, 2008. He is also a non-executive director of VSC International Pte Ltd. In his capacity as Chairman and Managing Director, he is responsible for overall management of our Company subject to the supervision and control of our Board. He brings with him several years of experience in industrial and business management, including in the shipping industry. Mr Arun Mehta has been instrumental in the growth and development of our Company through our various stages of expansion that has enabled us to reach our present position within the shipping industry.

Mr Arun Mehta obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in 1952 and his Bachelor of Law in 1958 from the University of Bombay.  Mr Arun Mehta is a Chartered Accountant and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.  He is also a Company Secretary and is a fellow of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. 

Mr Arun Mehta was the President of the Indian National Shipowners Association (for the years 1991 - 92 and 1992 - 93), and was awarded the Dadabhai Naoroji New Millennium Award New Delhi 2000 for his being “an authority in shipping” by Dadabhai Naoroji Centenary Committee and the Feroze Gandhi Memorial Peace Award 2000 for excellence in shipping industry organised by All India Feroze Gandhi Memorial Society.  He is also a  member of the Rotary Club.

On 5th April, 2006 he was awarded the “Varuna Award” by the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee, set up by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, for his sustained and outstanding contribution to the shipping industry in India.
